The PocketIndex Privacy Promise
PocketIndex is built with a local-first privacy philosophy. Your collections, custom folders, item ratings, personal notes, and photo libraries remain stored strictly on your device. We do not operate remote user databases, and we never sell, rent, or monetize your personal data.
1. Information We Handle
PocketIndex processes minimal data strictly necessary to deliver its core collection cataloging features:
Collection & Item Data (Stored Locally on Device): All categories, folder names, custom fields, ratings, acquisition dates, pricing notes, and photos are saved directly in your device's local storage (Android Scoped Storage / local SQLite). This data is never synchronized to a central company database without your explicit action.
Camera & Photo Captures: Camera access is requested solely when you choose to take a photo of an item to add it to your catalog, or when selecting an existing image from your photo gallery.
Device Diagnostics & Anonymous Identifiers: Standard, non-personal technical identifiers (such as device OS version, app version, and anonymous installation identifiers) may be processed to deliver updates, diagnose crashes, and prevent automated abuse of backend APIs.
PocketIndex includes an optional AI scan feature that assists you in identifying items, extracting details, and pre-filling collection fields. When you submit a photo for AI analysis:
Ephemeral Transmission: The captured image is compressed and securely transmitted over encrypted HTTPS to the Google Gemini API solely for real-time visual analysis and structured field extraction.
No Permanent Storage: Your photos are processed in memory and are not stored, archived, or retained on our servers after the response is generated.
EXIF & Metadata Stripping: Images are stripped of GPS coordinates and camera metadata client-side before transmission to safeguard your location privacy.
No Model Training on Private Collections: Your collection images are not used to train proprietary public models.
3. Advertising & Third-Party Services
To support ongoing maintenance and provide free AI scan allowances, PocketIndex may display advertisements via Google AdMob:
Google AdMob: Google AdMob may collect and process pseudonymous identifiers (such as the Android Advertising ID), approximate IP location, and app interaction events to serve contextual or personalized advertisements and prevent fraudulent ad traffic.
User Consent (GDPR / CCPA / UMP): In jurisdictions subject to data privacy regulations (including the EU and California), users are presented with a consent management dialogue (Google User Messaging Platform) to choose between personalized ads, non-personalized ads, or ad opt-outs.
Because your collection data resides locally on your device:
Full User Control: You can edit or delete individual items, photos, or folders at any time directly within the app interface.
Complete Data Deletion: Uninstalling the PocketIndex application or clearing the application's storage in your Android System Settings immediately and permanently deletes all stored collections, records, and cached images from your device.
Offline Backups: If you export a backup archive via the app settings, the file is saved to your personal device storage or chosen cloud drive under your direct control.
5. Security of Your Information
We implement cryptographic HMAC request signing, encrypted HTTPS network transport for all API interactions, and on-device private folder locking (PIN protection) to ensure that your collection data remains secure and shielded from unauthorized local or network access.
6. Children's Privacy
PocketIndex is designed for general audiences and collectors aged 13 and above. We do not knowingly collect or solicit personal identifiable information from children under the age of 13.
7. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may occasionally update our Privacy Policy to reflect app enhancements, regulatory guidelines, or new platform features. Any updates will be published to this webpage with a revised "Effective Date".
